TV

When I was a kid it was all about the first (maybe it was the second week ?) of September. All the new shows started up and I was all about watching television. These days premier week gets scattered over several weeks and don't get me started about how television shows start on Monday then get moved to their "regular timeslot" on Thursday etc. (Cue Guy grumbling: Damn kids and their new fangled TV scheduling. Can't find anything grumble, grumble, grumble.)

For the next two or three weeks I have all three videotape recorders working to see everything that I could possibly be interested in. Most of which will get canceled or I will stop watching in the near future. (At least I'll stop admitting I watch anyway :-)

A short overview of what I'm thinking about the new shows this season. In no particular order and not an all-inclusive list. Since I'm sure I'll forget some.

Smith: I had to check it out with Ray Liotta in it. I thought it was going to be kind of a Mission Impossible with bank robbing. Which it is, a little. The show turned out to be pretty dark for my tastes. Not that I can't enjoy that and I will watch a few more episodes. It's going to be hard to find someone to care about watching on a weekly basis. With one character apparently shooting two people in cold-blood another tazar-ing a school acquaintance into unconsciousness. We'll see...

Vanished: The wife of a Senator gets kidnapped but it's not the first time she's disappeared. The show may be too complicated for me. The last three episodes have been very plot driven. They seem to be developing a complicated multigenerational conspiracy like the Da Vinci Code. So far the has one big expository lump to me and without some characters I care about I may not be watching this much longer.

Kidnapped: This one isn't grabbing me much.

Studio 60: Love it, love it, love it! I need to buy Sorkin a baby naming book or something. He reuses the same names a bunch, but thats a minor quibble.

More to come...
