loracs likes Dancing With the Stars, so I watched it infrequently. I will admit to really enjoying The Amazing Race and I do watch Survivor (except for one season). I think of both shows as kind of mega-game shows. I actively dislike shows like The Bachelor because it seems too much like they are making life-changing decisions under a microscope. Playing a game and being ridiculous is one thing. Doing ridiculous things in order to get married (even if that doesn't often happen it's still the avowed purpose of the show) is a whole other thing in my mind. Never got into American Idol and now it's such a huge thing I avoid it because it feels too much like joining the herd. Besides, the resulting "idols" sing overly produced very commercial boring stuff in my humble opinion.
