Computer woes

I had a mostly lousy day yesterday with a few bright spots. While playing poker online yesterday morning my computer crashed. Besides losing $6.50. I was without the Internet, my music, my Netflix rental, my computer games and my ability to write for most of the day.

According to Microsoft there was a driver incompatibility from something I installed recently. Unfortunately, I didn't remember installing anything for weeks. Then I remembered that my City of Heroes had had a major upgrade recently. I called [personal profile] loracs and [personal profile] serenejournal just to whine then settled down to watch the West Wing Marathon on Bravo.

[personal profile] serenejournal rescued me later in the afternoon on her way back from picking up a friend's kid she's been babysitting. Using her mighty index finger she restarted my computer and I became entirely too envolved in fixing what made it crash.

Windows suggested that I uninstall things that might be incompatible. I didn't really want to uninstall my game but I thought it would be useful to run Windows update and see if that would help. My video card has been wanting a software upgrade for a few weeks now but I had not gotten around to it. It turned out there was on upgrade for my video card, so I installed it. At least I thought I installed it, but it doesn't appear to have upgraded. I've tried several times now and still don't have a clear indication that the drivers have been updated. At least my game keeps telling me I'm using old drivers.

Anyway, I have been using the computer since [personal profile] serenejournal helped me get it restarted and it hasn't crashed. I would still like to get the upgrade accomplished but I'm too frustrated to deal for awhile.

It was wonderful to see [personal profile] serenejournal, I've seen her more this week than most weeks. Even though most of the visits have been quick "drive-by" visits.

[personal profile] loracs brought home pork for dinner with potatoes and Ben and Jerry's ice cream for dessert. All comfort foods to me especially when the pork is breaded and fried :-) She was very sweet to me. Despite technical difficulties my life does not suck.
