New user pic

I can be a creature of habit. To illustrate the fact, for just about as long as I've had a Livejournal, I've used the same default user pic. Today, thanks to both of my dear loves I have a new user pic and it is now my default. It's a picture from a recent surprise trip that [personal profile] loracs took me on. A group of spaceflight fans set up a display of equipment used in various space missions (Russian and American). I got to touch all kinds of equipment that had actually been in space. The helmet I am wearing was used in space. How do I look? Thanks to [personal profile] loracs for the wonderful surprise and taking the picture (she used her cellphone pretty good, huh?). Thanks to [personal profile] serenejournal for helping me size the picture.

P.S. Astronauts are much smaller than I expected

Snazzy! :)

I expect that it makes a lot of practical sense to have smaller folks when it costs that much in fuel to transport every gram.

Is this version a little more naturally-coloured?

(I'm just guessing, since I obviously wasn't there, but the user icon looked yellow to me.)

Hay, thanks! That does look better.

Hey, thanks for cleaning the color up - it was on my "list of things to do" for [livejournal.com profile] stonebender. Alas, my cell phone does not have a flash unit! I haven't used it much, but I think I saw a place I could make an adjustment for indoor light temperature.

They said most of the Russian cosmonauts were under 5'4" and many of the first U.S. astronauts we're not much taller. When we started doing missions with the Russians, a lot of accommodation and/or squeezing happened on the Mir. It was a really fun exhibit - almost nothing behind glass and only a few things had a "Do Not Touch" sign on it.

That's pretty cool. :) I love space stuff. I honestly don't think it's practical to be doing manned missions, and I kind of wish people would give up on this "put a man on mars," thing, but hot damn would it ever be *neat*. (I don't think space exploration is itself pointless -- I think it's quite important -- but I think we should be doing it with robots as we've been doing.)

My old cell's camera is totally useless, so the fact that you could get a decent shot with yours is already impressive. My new one might be better, but I haven't managed to get it to transfer any photos off the camera.

We'll have to agree to disagree on manned spaceflight, but as you say putting a man on mars would be pretty *neat*
