It isn't about the presents ...
Well, maybe its a little about the presents.
It would really be OK with me if I didn't get Xmas presents, but it is so lovely when the presents people give you show they really *get you*. Ya know?
loracs got me an espresso machine! Which I love because, well, because it's an espresso machine! Actually, this was the fruition of a family joke. I like expresso especially lattes. Knowing how expensive a good espresso machine is I started teasing
loracs about buying me one. Thinking it was on the same level as buying a personal jet. As far is being economically achievable by our household. She woke me this morning with the news that our coffeemaker had broken. So I wouldn't be able to have my morning cup. Then on the way to my study I found the addition to our kitchen appliances on the counter. Its beeyouteeful!
She also got me a clock! Which projects the time and temperature on to any surface. I sleep on my back and I can't roll over or turn my head much. Which usually makes it difficult to see the time. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to wake-up after
loracs has gone to work but before my morning attendant shows up. I hate having no idea how long I have to wait. Now I'll know.
serenejournal gave me The Comic Book Encyclopedia by Ron Goulart I am a lapsed comic book fan who is slowly starting to buy comics again. It looks like this book will help me fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge. Plus it will be hellaciously fun to read. It is also in hardcover. Which is important because it's difficult/impossible to read paperbacks without usable hands. Ron Goulart happens to be a favorite pulp author of mine. Not one I talk about much, because it seems no one else knows him. He and Frederic Brown are favorites of mine.
She also got me The Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. I loved his comic book Sandman, but wasn't particularly fond of any of his novels until I read American Gods which was just great. So I'm really looking forward to reading this one.
I don't think I did as well in the giftgiving department this year as I have in the past. Usually things occur to me early enough so I can get them for my loved ones. Inspiration was lacking this year.
