Because I haven't posted in a while
Nov. 17th, 2004 04:42 pmI have been mightily confused and depressed by recent electoral events. It is difficult to stay motivated as an advocate when a large portion of people don't seem to speak your language. They don't seem to see the world at all like you do.
This week however has been especially wonderful personally. My live-in partner, Carol, and I got to spend a wonderful time Monday. We spent the morning getting reacquainted and *ahum*ing which we hadn't been able to do for weeks. Then we went to Da Vinci's, a restaurant near her work, where I ate way too much food. I spend the rest of the day hanging out it Carol's work reading a book. I've been able to spend more "hanging out" time with
I've been concerned about how slowly I read these days. This is mostly due to mechanical issues. Not having much use of my arms anymore makes reading books a process. I know there are audio books and I suppose I should get used to using them. They just don't seem like reading to me. They don't feel like the same activity. I've gone from reading at least one or two books a week to maybe reading one or two books every two or three months. I actually made it through a book in a week. Found a remaindered copy of Day of the Triffids and went through it in about a week. I enjoyed reading it but it's a terrible book.
I've been working on getting the Ed Roberts Campus built. A major hurdle was crossed when the City of Berkeley's Zoning Adjustments Board gave us a building permit. As long as no one appeals the decision we are home free. Now all we have to do is raise the other half of our funding!
A minor annoyance in my life is I can't seem to figure out how to configure the online game Star Wars Galaxies so that I can play it. Most of my online gaming is either Pokerstars or Asheron's Call. I've played Asheron's for about four years and it's getting pretty boring. I'm worried that the new games will take too much manual dexterity for me to play. This makes me sad.
