I wanted to let those who were concerned that I solved my difficulty with durable medical equipment! See this entry for details. I found an organization that sells used medical equipment, the New England Assistive Technology Marketplace or NEAT. They take in donated durable medical equipment, refurbish it and sell it at a very reasonable price. I found exactly the lift I wanted and it was just a year old. It seems to be run by two people who, according to them, have not been in business all that along. they're very nice folk, I just wish their are packing skills were better. My lift arrived with strips of cardboard attached, rather than an actual box. Once I got it in the house, we checked it out and it seemed no worse for wear. Except it was missing to handle to the crank. They handle is just a piece of plastic about the dimensions of a billiard ball. I called the shipping company. In the hopes that they would find it in their truck, but no luck. Don from NEAT tried to find replacement but failed. Evidently Sunrise medical, who provides replacement parts won't sell the handles in a reasonable number. They want to sell them in dozens rather than two or three. Don offered to send me the whole upper half of the left, but that offends my sensibilities. So I took the handle off my old lift. Other than that little snafu I'm very happy with my new lift.

I've had a couple of rough days. My partner Carol is having some kind of allergies-from-hell. Her nose has been completely stuffed up for days now. Complicating the matter is she had sleep apnea and the CPAP mask goes over her notes. Because her nose has been so congested, the CPAP has been useless to her and consequently she's hardly sleeping at all. I don't mean to make it about me but I feel particularly powerless when she's sick. I should be making her soup, rubbing her feet, something to make her feel better.

Fortunately, [livejournal.com profile] serenejournal (who hasn't been feeling great lately) has started feeling better today or I would begin to think there is a curse on all my loved ones. Sometimes being poly means you just have more people to worry about.

There are CPAP masks that cover both the nose and mouth. Would it be possible for Carol to acquire one of those?

Glad you got your lift!
