This article by Marilyn Golden gets to some of what I worry about when it comes to legalizing assisted suicide.

Wow, she puts it so succinctly. I wish that wasn't from decades of repeating it.

I assume that nondisabled people don't frequently encounter strangers, co-workers, family members saying, "If I were in your shoes I'd kill myself." That was, for me, what changed my thinking on PAS—I'd never heard it before, but I heard it within 24 hours of using a chair for the first time, and I hear it periodically 20 years on.

When I've got my grim on, I think we should advocate for barber-assisted-suicide. We're accustomed to ceding decisions to physicians, who we* hold in high esteem. But empowering barbers with a sedative/morphine combo? Perhaps that might offer an insight into exactly the power games under discussion.

* for values of "we" that don't include me.

Yes, for real. The problem of a medical system that doesn't know how to help terminal patients by any other metric than days breathing is a real one, but pushing assisted suicide as the answer is just...ignorant to the point of maliciousness.
