Comment on this post and I will pick seven of your interests. You then explain them in your journal and re-post. My interest selection below courtesy of [personal profile] serenejournal.

absinthe: I think I started getting fascinated by the drink when I did research for my trip to New Orleans. In a flurry of URL following, I came upon the story of Jean Lanfray. Who in the 19th century killed his entire family after drinking two glasses of absinthe (nevermind that the man had been a lifelong alcoholic and drank everything but the kitchen sink as well as the two absinthes before the murders.) According to what I read the entire incident was blamed on the absinthe and many countries began making it illegal. I just thought that was amazing and then I thought it would be really interesting to try it. Since it's illegal here and I don't wish to break the law for such a trivial thing. I probably won't be able to try it unless there's some improbable groundswell to make it legal here or I happen to get to Europe someday.

On doublechecking my facts, I find in Wikipedia that there was a long time that absinthe was thought of negatively. So the Jean Lanfray incident may not have been the single factor in making it illegal. Which makes the drink a little less fascinating to me, but I'd still like to try it someday. For me there is an exotic mysterious aura to the drink.

deaf: As a person with a disability I have some interest in general disability culture. I read Oliver Sacks book When the Mind Hears about the history of American deaf culture. So I put this in my interests

enterprise: I'm a big fan of science fiction movies, television, books. I'm especially a fan of Star Trek. Unlike lots of fans I really enjoyed the enterprise. I wish it had continued.

neal stephenson: One of the post-cyberpunk authors who means a great deal to me because his book Snow Crash had something to do with my becoming Umbanda.

small beer press: Is a small fantasy, science fiction press that keeps producing good fiction that is consistently being nominated for The Tiptree Award.

winnie-the-pooh: I read A. A. Milne as a child. I always wanted to be Tigger, but I suspect I'm more of an Eeyore.

xxxenophile: Was an adult comic book written and illustrated by Phil Foglio. I met Phil once in person before I knew anything about his artistic ability. At the time he was part of an improv group called Mobius Theater. We brought his group down to Carbondale Illinois to perform. This was when I was attending Southern Illinois University. A member of our science fiction club, Derek was also a member of the improv group.
