I believe the United States has demonstrated no ability to establish a stable democracy in a foreign country...
I think Japan and Germany turned out pretty well, but I mention that mostly as a historical oddity. I can't think of one since then.
I remember when Saddam was our friend. In particular, I remember my brother arguing that Saddam was the aggressor in the Iran-Iraq war, and that we were once again supporting a Evil TyrantTM.
It's funny how all "our" greatest enemies ( the spell-checker suggested "enemas" ) now are people "we" put in power. If I were just a touch more cynical, I'd think it was part of some sort of plan to provide an unlimited series of distractions from domestic matters.
