I've been singing a song for the last few weeks that came from an album my dad had owned. I remember it as being a novelty type record with funny songs. The one I've been singing I believe was called, "In the Wet". In one of our moves we had managed to lose the record (yes an actual vinyl record, does that make me seem old? ;-). I didn't remember the name of the album or the name of the singer. Yesterday, I got it in my head to try to find out what the heck I'd been singing. I thought the singer's name was Ralph. I tried various spellings of Ralph and song lyrics with little luck. Finally I just did a search on "In the Wet" and by golly found the sucker! His name is Rolf Harris and here's a website.

He's silly, but makes me smile.

Yes! Rolf Harris had a hit in 1963 with "Tie Me Kangaroo, Sport," and did an album. It included "In the Wet," a song about the contests among the savage Cockney tribes (bit of Aussie revenge there), the tearful ballad "I've Got Hair Oil on Me Ears and Me Glasses Slipping Down (But Baby, I Can See through You)," and a song about his new friends "Nick Teen and Al K. Hall" (pity they didn't know someone named Mary).

"Tie Me Kangaroo, Sport" was about an Australian stockman (farmer) arranging for the disposal of his goods and chattels at his death. One part was

Let me abos go loose, Lou.
Let me abos go loose.
They're of no further use, Lou,
So let me abos go loose.

I assumed that abos were some kind of furry little marsupials and was shocked years later to find out that it meant Aborigines.

Yes, yes! :-) I remember "Tie me" and "I've Got Hair Oil" although I didn't until you mentioned them. I also had a special fondness for Nick and his pal.
