Just so you know
Jan. 16th, 2004 04:00 pmI receive (in-home support services) under a subprogram called the Residual program (I know it's a terrible name. They changed it about three years ago and I knew the name change foreshadowed its doom). I get my IHSS through the Residual program because of my "severe" disability. Under Gov. Arnold's proposed budget the Residual program will be completely cut. Now, I'm not really in danger of being put in a nursing home because I have loved ones who will assist me whether or not they get paid. It will be a burden however. I don't know how Carol could work and take care of me. I don't know how much the added stress would impact our relationship. The reality is that all of us are getting older and many of us will become disabled. How would you like to be treated? Incarcerated in a nursing facility? Especially when getting care at home costs on average $8000 a year and being taken care of in nursing home costs about $43,000 a year. Not only are the Governors cuts inhumane, but they don't save any money in the long run. That's just one of his proposed cuts there are many others. Read more here.
