damn straight. it's just amazing the sort of power people attribute to this guy who left us, IMO, with nothing good. and yeah, it's well worth mentioning that his blind fear of communism helped set saddam in motion. what a joke, to see rumsfeld pretend that he is as pure as a newborn babe. why do so many americans have such lousy memories for past political bullshit?
what blind anti-communism did under reagan, blind "war on terror" does now; sowing the seeds of more crap to come down on us in the future.
It really makes me wonder how much to believe about the history I read of things I didn't live through, when the history I read of things I did live through is so twisted.
It's really scary to me how short peoples memories are and how unwilling a large percentage of people are to look at the facts. I really think that's why conservative radio/TV commentator's do so well. There seemed to be people who just want an easy answer, any easy answer. They want to be given clever bullet points that they can repeat and appear to be well-informed (in their minds).
I sort of understand being "charitable" in memorializing someone who just died, but outright rewriting history boggles my mind. It's also one thing for friends and family to be hyperbolic but when news reporters gloss over the truth I'm really appalled. I've seen it happen too often that an untruth gets repeated and suddenly becomes part of People's belief system.
