Last weekend I went to the Polyflock hosted by [personal profile] rmjwell and Ruth Anne in Redwood City. I miss many poly gatherings either because of my own energy level or because they're sometimes held in people's homes. As some may not be aware, most private homes aren't very wheelchair accessible. The Polyflock was held at a local motel. So I was able to attend.

The flock suite (room?) was on the ground floor. Unfortunately the threshold was high enough to make it impossible to get in. Apparently the motel had presented this room as being wheelchair accessible. (not exactly!) (I want to be clear that I do not fault [personal profile] rmjwell or Ruth Anne for the inaccessibility of the room. They had clearly done what they could do regarding wheelchair access and I really appreciate their efforts) However this wasn't a disaster. It appears that the Cubs (and Giants?) had taken over the room anyway and (not being a sports fan) I was completely content with hanging out near the pool.

Friday night in Redwood City was remarkably comfortable temperature-wise and the company was very congenial and entertaining. I returned on Saturday and found that Ruth Anne and [personal profile] rmjwell had found some wood that could be used as a makeshift ramp. Using the wood, I managed (with a shove from someone) to get into the poly flock room. I got a chance to meet, talk to, and reconnect name/lj name/other alias with faces. I will not attempt to list everyone because I still don't have all of their names etc. straight. I had a great time on Saturday. People came out near the pool. Sat down and talked. Some stayed for a alongtime, others came and left. It felt like a really good day on alt.poly. I got to do some conversation grazing. Listening to everyone talk. Adding my 2 cents every now and then. Not feeling any self-imposed pressure to entertain nor did I feel left out.

I did get to see [personal profile] daltong, my ex (for the first time since we broke up, I believe). Odd thing to say "my ex". I've never had ex before. She looked as cute as ever and I very much appreciated her coming down to say hello even though she was fresh from a back treatment. We didn't say much of substance to each other, but it was good to see her.

Got to take a walk with [personal profile] serenejournal around the motel. We held hands and smooched in the shadows. Very sweet and romantic. As my one piece of constructive criticism of the event. Some of the food choices seemed incomplete to me. If one is offering bread and peanut butter I would think jelly would be somewhere around. I also thought that cold meats would have been a nice addition. Other than that very small complaint much fun was had by me and mine. Thank you Ruth Anne and [personal profile] rmjwell
