serenejournal was featured at a poetry reading in the South Bay.


Being a dutiful groupie, I went down to see her. loracs drove serenejournal, someotherguy and I down there. We are good at traveling together. Having done so, recently, on a road trip to San Diego. Saw leback and her sweetie Robert (I thought I saw Alexi as well but I may have hallucinated that. I didn't see him the rest of the night.)

Saw vito_excalibur, who has been busily applying to grad-schools for architecture. I hadn't realized that badgerbag was organizing the meeting. I know her mostly through my James Tiptree Jr. Literary Award work. She's a member of the jury this year. Collected a nice hug from her.

I enjoyed listening to serenejournal's poetry as always. It was fun to see her be the center of attention. The audience really enjoyed her. I got to hear a wonderful rendition of Chopin on the piano. I appeared to be the only one who didn't really enjoy the other poets. There were a few nicely turned phrases. Some of them were better performers than poets, but one needs to take my opinion with a grain of salt. I am a long way from a poet. :-)

I loved walking around Palo Alto at night in search of coffee and/or dessert with the "gang": loracs, serenejournal, someotherguy, leback, Robert and badgerbag. We came upon a Capoeira circle, which made me homesick for the old American Magic Umbanda House folks. We ended up at Cafe 220 where I enjoyed the company along with my Turkish coffee.

Alexei was indeed there, but he didn't mingle much (got caught up looking at paintings before the show, and left at intermission because he was tired). You are not hallucinating. :-)

I missed most of the readings besides Serene's (was running home to get the book I forgot to bring her), but from what little I saw, she was definitely the standout. I enjoyed the walk through Palo Alto, too, especially the Capoeira circle. Gotta find out if they do that regularly...

It was great seeing you! I felt spoiled getting to hang out with you all so close to home, so next time I'll definitely have to make it up your way. :-)

Ack, and I misspelled his name! In groups of people I often get stuck where I can't turn around. So, I only saw him out of the corner of my eye. Good to know my peripheral vision is still working. :-)

*nod* I felt a little pushy when I realized I'd shoved right past someotherguy. :-)

Anyway, any chance you and loracs will be at Nomad tonight? serenejournal's performance last week finally convinced Robert and me to get our acts together and head up there, so if you all make it, we'll see you tonight!
