Dear Mr. Thomas and Ms. Squires:

Thank you for bringing this incident to our attention. We were greatly concerned to hear of your experiences at Westgate Center. Upon receipt of your email, we immediately engaged senior management from Securitas to address this concern and to ensure that the actions you described do not happen again. Additionally, we have underscored the importance that all security personnel working at West Gate meet the high standard that we require related to creating a friendly, courteous environment for our customers. Attached please find an apology from Securitas, the Security Firm we employ at Westgate and a copy of a Securitas Memo that is being distributed to all Securitas employees.

We are sorry for the disturbing experience at Westgate and we want to thank you again for sharing your concerns with us so that we may rectify the situation.

WEST GATE - SAN LEANDRO

And it had two attachments: Dear Mr. Thomas,

The purpose of this letter is to express our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you experienced with respect the conduct of our Security Officer at the West Gate Mall in San Leandro.

We are sorry for your frustration and also to learn that this is not the first time you have found the security vehicle parked in the disabled stall. Especially since it is Securitas USA policy that actions taken by our Company and by each employee should be lawful and satisfy high ethical and moral standards. The Security Officer’s conduct was not acceptable and we will take appropriate corrective action, including additional training of all Security Officers assigned at the West Gate Mall.

Securitas USA has taken measures to reiterate with Officers the applicable State laws for parking spaces for the disabled. Additionally, we will ensure that Officers assigned at this site participate in training addressing your specific concerns by completing Securitas courses in Traffic Control and Parking Lot Security, Public Relations and Customer Service Essentials.

It goes without saying that your experience with our security officer should not have been an unpleasant one. It is important for all of our employees to build trust with customers, colleagues and the surrounding community

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention and we sincerely hope that you will have no further cause for complaint in relation to our service.

Sincerely,

Subject: Parking in Spaces for the Disabled

It has recently been brought to our attention that Security Officers are parking the Security vehicle in a stall and in the area adjacent to the parking stall designated for disabled persons.

It is unlawful for any person to park or leave standing any vehicle in a stall or space designated for disabled persons and disabled veterans pursuant to Section 22511.7 or 22511.8, unless the vehicle displays either a special identification license plate issued pursuant to Section 5007 or a distinguishing placard issued pursuant to Section 22511.55 or 22511.59 and in any area of the pavement adjacent to a parking stall or space designated for disabled persons that is marked by crosshatched lines and is thereby designated for the loading and unloading of vehicles parked in the stall or space.

Security Officers are not authorized to park in parking stalls designated for disabled persons at any time. Please be advised that if a ticket is received for such violation, the Security Officer responsible will need to remit payment for such infraction. Further, continued violations of such will be grounds for disciplinary action.

It is Securitas USA policy that actions taken by our Company and by each employee should be lawful and satisfy high ethical and moral standards. All employees should be alert to situations that could result in the violation of a Company policy. As a reminder, as security officers you must strive to conduct business according to our core values:

• Integrity-The Customer feels comfortable allowing us to work on their premises, knowing that we
are trustworthy

• Vigilance - Our industry is based upon watchfulness, seeing, hearing, protecting, evaluating and
reporting

• Helpfulness – Securitas USA strives to give its customers the very best service possible.

That's fantastic. I'm happy to see that they took proactive measures to deal with the situation and I hope that you don't ever encounter that issue there again.

Interesting that both parties chose to ignore the issue of the employee refusing to identify himself, but the stiffly worded memo will probably get the main point across.

Yeah, they don't specifically say anything about that, but they do say they will put their employees through training that addresses my specific concerns. Which I thought covered it.

I noticed the same thing, and I do hope you are right and they will cover it in the training. That is Customer Service 101 really, you have to be willing to give out your info to a customer, even when they are unhappy.

Great response though, and especially satisfying coming back so fast!

Oh, well done! It was a great letter but I wasn't hopeful it would get a response. Perhaps my cynicism dial is set too high.

Excellent! There are not many bright sides to our economic situation, but malls which alienate potential customers are especially going to feel the pinch now.

Are you familiar with the web page www.consumerist.com? They are always looking for good stories like this; you might want to share this one with them.

go, you!
