I had a good time yesterday. The weather was colder than it has been for weeks. (Naturally, since I was out and about :-)

I started out at the The Macarthur BART station which has two newly installed elevators. It's also the closest BART station to Carol's work. I had planned on going to Berkeley, catching a movie and dropping by The Other Change of Hobbit. However, I managed to get into the wrong elevator. Which took me to the trains heading south. So I decided to check out the new San Francisco airport BART station [personal profile] serenejournal and I have been talking about her flying up here one of these times rather than drive.I would like to be able to meet her at the airport without asking Carol to drive me. The new SFO BART station seems like the perfect solution. I'm naturally motivated to check out wheelchair accessible features on new public transit. I'm even more motivated if it means an easier trip for [personal profile] serenejournal and more time with [personal profile] serenejournal. So I had been planning on checking it out for awhile now. This seemed like the perfect opportunity.

The ride to the SFO station was easy, if a little more expensive than I had expected. The train let me off at the airport but you to transfer a smaller train that takes you to the different gates. I rode the "people mover" to the very first gate. Just to try it out. It was a little jerky, but fun ride. From the people mover I needed to go to another elevator to enter the airport. I decided to go down one level to the international departures floor and wandered around. There were lots of restaurants and a bookstore. As I wandered, I noticed signs directing me to BART. I thought there might be another elevator, but it was an exit going straight out to the BART station. No elevator!

(I'm not quite sure how that works. It didn't seem like the BART station had two levels, but it must have.)The exit was two revolving doors. One actually designed for a person in a wheelchair to use. I had never gone through a revolving door before. It was fun! If [personal profile] serenejournal ever wants to fly, it would be simple to meet her at SFO.

I got on BART again and headed north to Berkeley. I still wanted to catch a movie, so I want to the Shattuck Theater. By the time I got to the theater, most of the movies I'd heard of were already playing and their next showing was too late for me to be picked up by Carol around six. There were three movies I had never heard of which were all starting within 15 minutes of each other. So, I did something I do periodically. I went to whatever movie was showing next.

Which turned out to be to an Australian movie called Garage Days. About a group of kids who wannabe rock stars. It was a slightly entertaining, completely forgettable film. Although the ending was better-than-expected.

I dropped by the Other Change of Hobbit and killed time talking to Dave Nee and Jan Murphy (with a very short chat with Tom Whitmore, co-owner with Dave of OCH). Until Carol and we went home. That was my day.
