Angie's List

Wow, I really don't recommend Angie's List!
loracs and I are thinking about remodeling the bathroom to make it more accessible. I specifically want a roll-in shower. The great guy that remodeled our kitchen abandoned (gasp!) us to go to design school, get married, have kids and work on the East Coast. So we need somebody to do the work and don't really have any leads or recommendations. So I thought I'd try Angie's List as a way to start the search. I received exactly one contractor who might have been able to do the work, but he apparently just listed himself because there was no feedback about his work from anyone. Okay, I wasted my money joining Angie's List, but that's a chance you take when you try a new service. What I really don't like is how aggressive they are about keeping someone subscribed to their list. First once you subscribe you have to opt-out of renewing your subscription. Which is a practice I really hate, but just now I went about canceling my subscription. You think it would just be a matter of clicking the cancellation button and maybe filling out a short feedback survey. No. I had to log onto a chat session. I requested a cancellation and gave my reasons. An employee then offered to send me an e-mail when my subscription actually ended. I said no, I just wanted to cancel. Then the employee offers me a discount for renewal of my subscription. Then I said, okay this will be my third time asking you to cancel my subscription and finally the employee complied. Let's see if I actually get canceled or if they "accidentally" keep me subscribed. Maybe others got useful information, but I found the service a waste of time. That, and their focus on just keeping people subscribed has me actively disliking their service.

Date: 2011-12-20 06:34 pm (UTC)I sometimes take part in online contests from companies I know. That's how I won the $2K. Yesterday, I entered a contest put on by Woman's Day, and without any notice, they automatically signed me up for a "trial" subscription of their magazine. I don't THINK so! I need to go through the rigamarole to get it canceled, though, because there was simply no way to do it on their website. Grrrr!
