Happy Birthday to Me

My It wasn't my favorite birthday weekend but there were high points. Saturday morning there was much sweet and happy rubbing, kissing and cuddling with my live-in sweetie Carol. After getting out of bed late, we had planned on taking the ferry to Sausalito. The weather really didn't cooperate and I didn't feel like being cold all day. So we changed our plans to going to a movie. Carol said I could pick the movie but I knew perfectly well that many of my preferences would have bothered her. So, I decided to take a safe comedy rather than things like: Mystic River, 21 Grams, The Butterfly Effect etc. That's how I ended up watching Welcome to Mooseport. Not a movie I would have chosen on my own, but it was better than expected. Of course Ray Romano packed the cast of his first movie vehicle with remarkably talented folk. A few of my favorites being Gene Hackman and Marcia Gay Harding (*pant, pant*). The movie didn't change the world but it was a pleasant 90 minutes or so spent with Carol and her other partner Betty.
At home I enjoyed a short conversation with my love
serenejournal. Then we watched Lost in Translation on DVD. Which I really liked. Carol and Betty only felt mediocre about it. It's a beautiful film and very touching at times. A little slow for many people, I think. I didn't mind sitting there watching the pretty people and the beautiful rendition of Japan. Had a late dinner of rib-eye and rosotto.
Sunday was collation for the APA (it stands for amateur press association, but it amounts to a compilation of personal 'zines) I'm a part of called Intercourse organized by
wild_irises. She had offered to drive me to Donya's using my car. So we headed for South Bay around 2 o'clock. Spent a nice time socializing with fellow Apan's
19_crows, her husband, Donya, Kerry, and Janet. Some of these people may have live journals but I only know Debbie's and Elizabeth's. I must say I covet Donya's home. It's completely wheelchair accessible on the first floor and the architects did a beautiful job of integrating the accessible features in truly comfortable and comforting ways.
I did have to announce that I was leaving the APA for a while. Live journal has taken the place of much of what I did there and I wasn't giving it the proper attention. I did put myself back on the wait-list. So perhaps in a year or so I'll be ready to return.
Since I don't get to the South Bay very often
wild_irises arranged a dinner with some South Bay live journallers. Her parner,
alanbostick, his new sweetie
wordweaverlynn, her longtime partner
gramina,
rmjwell and his live-in partner Ruth Anne (who I'm sure has a live journal but I'm not bright enough to remember right now).
I had not met
wordweaverlynn or
gramina before. I am very impressed with both of them. They are cute and very sweet together. It was fun to see all the NRE flowing between
alanbostick and
wordweaverlynn. While noting how comfortable
wild_irises and
gramina were with everything. As usual, felt a bit self-conscious with new people but everyone was warm and funny.
We played a game with the fortune cookies at the end of the meal suggested by
wild_irises which turned out remarkably well. Notes for taken and I hope
rmjwell will post a description. We had a great time!
rmjwell's account is here.
