The Box Meme
Feb. 26th, 2004 04:00 pmThis one was hard! I'm not completely sure I'm happy with it but here it is:
Snagged from
nellorat although the wording's from
rmjwell:
So, say you were meeting a new person--blind date, new friend, who knows. And you wanted them to have some idea of what kind of person you are, and who you are. But you can't actually tell them in so many words. Instead, you have to give them a box, with a dozen things in it for them to look at/read/listen to/taste/whatever. "What would you put in the box? And a copy of your journal or a link to your LJ would be the same thing as just telling them directly, yourself, so that's not allowed.
I note that LJ and written self-description are ruled out, but other already-written things by the person preparing the box are not.
1. A mix CD with many songs probably more than I can list right now. It would certainly have to include "Blackbird" by the Beatles, "The Little Drummer Boy", "Hideout" by Sarah Harmer, "Use both Hands" and "Untouchable Face" by Ani DiFranco, "Hole in the River" by Crowded House, They Might Be Giants, Melanie, John Prine, Steve Goodman, "Our Town" by Iris De Mint, "Temporary Road", by John Gorka, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Beth Orton, "Hey Jealousy", by Gin Blossoms, Barenaked Ladies, Beck, Kate Bush, Cake, Kasey Chambers, Cracker, "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman, Shawn Colvin, Counting Crows, Cowboy Junkies, Sheryl Crow, Green Day. Nanci Griffith, Arlo Guthrie, Woody Guthrie, Indigo Girls, "If I Had a Horse" by Lyle Lovett, Luscious Jackson, Liz Phair, "I Enjoy Being a Girl" by Phranc, "It's the End of the World" by R.E.M, The Roches, Matthew Sweet, Richard Thompson, Throwing Muses, Suzanne Vega, Dar Williams, Lucinda Williams, Victoria Williams.
2. A copy of Stranger in a Strange Land
3. A picture of me with my sweeties
4. A copy of the Star Trek episode, "Plato's Children"
5. A copy of Hal Holbrook's monologue in Capricorn One
6. A picture of me at Southern Illinois Barbecue in Carbondale.
7. My BA diploma from UC Berkeley
8. A copy of my story, "The Gift"
9. A copy of "Local Hero"
10. A picture of my Xango tattoo
11. A copy of The Wooden Sea by Jonathan Carroll
12. A copy of The City, Not Long After by Pat Murphy
