1. How did you meet Derrick White? We went to school together at SIU. We met at the Science-Fiction Society a club that met every Monday evening 7 to 10.

2. What is causing your muscle degeneration (I apologize if I'm phrasing that badly) and what is the long-term prognosis? Don't worry about the phrasing. I'm only picky about such things when people I don't know are asking questions they have no business asking. We're friends, ask me anything. My disability is caused by genetic disorder that affects the nerves of the voluntary muscles. Which in turn causes the muscles to degenerate. I worry about talking about the long-term prognosis only because those who know tend to treat me differently. The real answer is I don't know. The muscle deterioration caused by my disability isn't consistent. I have gone long periods of time with no change in my ability and then there are times when it seems to change rapidly. After a fairly recent period of rapid weakening, I seem to be in "remission" the last two years. I may stay at this level of ability the rest of my life or I could start getting weaker, or I could get hit by a bus. However barring accident, my disability will likely be my demise.

3. How did you come to your study of loas and voodoo?

This story is going to make me seem shallow, but I fell in love with a woman who was part of a local Umbanda group. I started attending ceremonies to be close to her. We went on a few dates but it never went anywhere. However, the ceremonies themselves became powerful and important to me. So I joined that group and got my "head wash" (a ceremony sort of equivalent to a baptism) for my head deity, Xango. I've separated myself from the local group, but I still worship privately.

4. What's the best piece of relationship advice you've ever received? My Dad told me you can't change them. Even for their "own good" Enjoy them as they are or leave.

5. What's your favorite cuisine? Italian
