My weekend

[personal profile] serenejournal came up to visit last weekend!

There's always a push me, pull you feeling to this LDR stuff. I love her so much and get so greedy about our together time. Yet I want to do more social things with her. Weekends just aren't enough time, but I cherish each one of them. She arrived around 9 AM. We did some shopping for the salon that [personal profile] rmjwell organized at my house (so it would be easier for me to attend). Along with [personal profile] serenejournal, [personal profile] rmjwell and myself, Ruth Anne, [personal profile] wild_irises, [profile] abostick59, and [personal profile] the_ogre showed up. I was a bit concerned about the topic of the salon, but everyone seemed to have a really good time. I probably would've liked a couple more people to come, but I completely understood people's reasoning for not making it. I was actually very impressed that [personal profile] rmjwell tore himself away from a Cubs game to attend.

After a pleasant afternoon of munching and really good conversation we threw "the bums" out and started with the necking. :-)

We try to have at least one meal with my other sweetie, Carol, and her partner, Betty (both my housemates). Betty has been having some trouble with her back, and wasn't up to going out. So we invited another friend of ours that I wanted [personal profile] serenejournal to meet and made it a foursome. We settled on pub food at the The Englander.

I had a Murphy's Stout, some steak, mushroom, and ale pie. [personal profile] serenejournal had iced tea, fried scallions, garlic fries and some coleslaw. After dinner, [personal profile] serenejournal and I took a short walk to a Baskin-Robbins for ice cream for me and sherbert for her. Carol picked us up after and we went home to watch a tape of Carol's recent performance in Bodies in Motion. In which she did a beautiful job and we watched Alias together. After a short nap, [personal profile] serenejournal drove back to San Diego.

Sounds very nice! So what was the topic of the salon, if it can be told?

I was going to post it, but I couldn't find the e-mail it was in and I didn't want to reconstruct it. Since I would probably get it completely wrong. If I can't find it in the next couple of days, I'll post my best approximation.

"Contentious communicators, community, and the facism of harmony" if my memory serves (and if it doesn't my email log does).

Thanks again, Guy (and serene) for hosting it. I certainly enjoyed myself and the conversation was engaging and revealing to me.

And thank you for organizing it too. I want to do more of such things but inertia does overpower me sometimes. I think we can certainly pat each other on the back for a successful afternoon. :-)

I'm not sure if [personal profile] rmjwell's reply goes to you too, but he tells me the topic was; "Contentious communicators, community, and the facism of harmony"
