[profile] leback asked me to speak at her school symposium a couple of months ago. I was very complemented and how can you say no to her anyway? I didn't think much about it until a couple of weeks ago. When she sent me a reminder note. I'm speaking on a panel called Late-Term Abortion and Disability Rights. I plan to just talk about the history of independent living and how it might frame the discussion. I haven't really spoke in front of a group of people since I was the president of the Board at CIL. Right now I'm in my usual, "What the hell did I get myself into?" headspace. Wish me luck.

That sounds like a really good thing to do -- I hope it all goes very well!

Everything went fine. I wasn't completely satisfied with my performance but that's not unusual for me. :-)

I share that headspace! I am still terrified that you and the other speakers will show up and say "Hey, this is a mess--what are you wasting my time for?"

But it will all be fine. You are actually one of the speakers I have the most confidence in, because I actually *know* that you have interesting things to say, and can hold up your end of a conversation. So I don't think you need luck, but I wish it to you all the same. :-)

Thanks, and I'm sure the symposium won't be a mess and won't waste anyone's time. This is my usual getting ready nervousness.

You're gonna kick ass, my love. If there's one thing you do spectacularly (and there's not just one thing, there are many things, but still, if there were only one), it's public speaking. *smoooooooch*

Yes, what she said! I remember you reading at the rehearsals for the Potlatch play thing. I was bowled over. Good luck, but I know you will be awesome. And I'd love to hear what you have to say if you want to post it.

I loved doing that Potlatch thing. I wish I could figure out more ways I could perform. I love acting, but I'm not built for auditions and the pummeling one's self-image takes getting work as an actor. We missed you at the performance. I was really enjoying the stuff you were doing in rehearsal. I only have notes from what I talked about at the symposium, but I'll try to write something up in live journal. There were a couple issues I didn't manage to touch on that I think I'd like to write about here.

Thank you for the opportunity. You-all did a great job! I wish I hadn't gotten quite so nervous and I wish there had been a little more time for questions. I felt like I was just getting relaxed and warmed up when we had to wrap it up. I really enjoyed my co-panelist Parker's talk. I couldn't really follow the genetics guy. Maybe because I couldn't see the slides. From what I saw you should be very proud of yourselves. If the weather hadn't been quite so cold and I had more energy I would have stuck around. After my panel I was just exhausted. Please thank the organizers. I love my rosebush! :-)

I don't know about kicking ass, I think I did OK. Got a lot more nervous than I'm used to getting. I think its lack of practice. As president of CIL's board, I did a lot of these kinds of talks. Generally I think I'm good at this sort of thing. Yesterday wasn't my finest hour. The symposium was great though. They were all very welcoming and they gave me a rosebush!

Sounds like you probably did pretty well, but I won't argue with your self-assessment. ;-)

Yay, rosebush!

*Good Luck*

Yes speaking in public has always been one of your talents I admire. The thought of doing anything in public terrifies me but you have always been aw-some at it! You will be amazing I know it but I wish you luck anyway!
